Our Boulanger Orchestra from the Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program provided an afternoon of music and an instrument petting zoo at the Boston Public Library’s Children’s Library in Copley Square on Monday April 8th. This was part of a series of interactive performances aimed to amplify Boston's robust youth initiatives at some of the cities most storied spaces. The Boston Public Library offers daily music, art, and STEM programming for students and families after school. JQOP is pleased to partner with the BPL Children's Library to add an element of live performance and engaging student-led instrument petting zoos.
Students performed selections from "Pirates of the Caribean" to the Queen classic "We Will Rock You."
After the performance, the JQOP musicians took time teaching the young audience members how to play a string instrument in our instrument petting zoo. The event was part of a series for youth hosted by the Boston Public Library entitled “Art Explorers,” inviting young people from the Boston community to explore various art disciplines in a drop-in after school program every Wednesday afternoon. This program, in particular, is made possible through the support of the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education and D'Addario foundation.
