The sixth grade string quartet had its premiere performance at Northeastern University’s John D. O’Bryant African-American Institute this past Sunday. Students were asked to play in Harp the Herald, a celebratory concert featuring harpist Angelica Hairston, soprano Jasmine Nicole Robinson, and violinists Cori Amanda Bodley and Elizabeth Showalter. The concert featured Christmas and classical favorites.
JQOP students performed music by Vivaldi, Sibelius, Peter Warlock, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. What was most impressive was how these student musicians played each piece without a conductor – watching and listening to each other to stay together. Those attending the event were asked to bring school supplies for Josiah Quincy Elementary School. We hope this is the first of many performances for our new middle school chamber ensemble!
JQOP wishes to thank Angelica Hairston for inviting us to be a part of this wonderful event. A big BRAVO to all of the musicians who performed!
